Who: Pre & Postnatal Yoga Classes with Nadia Raafat

Where: Battersea Yoga

What: Nadia Raafat is the Co-founder of BatterseaYoga, a popular SW London Yoga and Meditation Centre.

Nadia believes “Childbirth is the Ultimate Meditation” and her Becoming Mother label is devoted and dedicated to supporting women to motherhood and beyond with yoga and mindfulness.

She is an expert in her field: a mother to 4 children, a yoga and meditation teacher with over 10 years experience, a birth educator, a Dancing for Birth teacher and a practising birth doula.

Over the last decade, inspired by her own very different 4 pregnancies and birth journeys she has helped hundreds of women manage the physical and emotional challenges of pregnancy and experience a positive birth and transition into Motherhood with her Yoga and Mindfulness for Birth programme.

Nadia offers three Pre & Postnatal Yoga Classes at BatterseaYoga including:-

  • Pregnancy Yoga: Yoga should be the first choice of exercise for any pregnant woman. Widely recommended and promoted by midwives and doctors, it is considered the safest all round exercise for women during pregnancy and an ideal birth preparation programme. Classes suit all stages of pregnancy from 14 – 42 weeks. Battersea Yoga’s pregnancy classes cover everything the pregnant mother needs to keep her fit and well during her pregnancy, remedy many of the common pregnancy complications like back pain and oedema and prepare and empower her physically, emotionally and spiritually for birth. After one hour of mindful yoga practice, we end with fifteen minutes of healing deep relaxation allowing the body to release tensions, the mind to become still and the mother to create a deeper connection with her growing baby.
  • Postnatal Yoga With Baby: Battersea Yoga’s new Postnatal Yoga class aims to heal, strengthen and nurture your postnatal body as well as connect with a Yoga community of new mums. The emphasis in this class is on Yoga for the Mother and prioritises strengthening the pelvic floor muscles, re-aligning pelvis and spine and re-building core strength. Postnatal Yoga can be practiced from 6 weeks.
  • Mum & Baby Yoga: In these very special classes we combine specific postnatal yoga exercises for the mothers with the wonderful practice of baby yoga to ensure that both mothers and babies enjoy their yoga experience. Alongside the postnatal yoga, the Baby Yoga, through a combination of song, movement and yoga postures, provides a joyful physical experience for the babies and the mothers to share together. Baby Yoga encourages motor, vestibular and emotional development and can be really helpful in calming and soothing colicky babies and babies with reflux. Mothers gain a new confidence in their physical handling of their baby and discover a more playful style of interaction with them. At the end of the class the mothers get a chance to catch up and share their experiences of the wonderful and challenging world of mothering. Baby Yoga is a relatively new practice that has become increasingly popular as more and more mothers witness its positive effect on their babies developments and on the mother/baby relationship.

Who: CARiFiT

What: CARiFiT is a 30 minute fitness class which has been carefully created for mothers with babies aged six weeks to six months old and encourages the reintroduction of exercise, as well as an opportunity for mums to get closer to theri baby whilst working out.

The class has been created and designed by pre-and-post natal specialist Personal Trainer, Vern Hill of Hill-Battersea, in collaboration with global fitness expert, Vicky Mahony. Vern has been working with pre and post natal women for over 10 years and has developed CARiFiT to meet the needs of the post natal body and mind. CARiFiT encourages social and physical benefits for new mums, focusing on restoring a mother’s core, strengthening their overall posture, increasing their heart rate and all while meeting new like-minded mums. The workout is punctuated with bursts of sensory music for the babies, which often results in them drifting off to sleep during the class, as the mums work-up a sweat and feel the rush of endorphins again.
