B Loves: This i-Size seat takes your baby facing rearwards for longer and has a great lie-flat position

The Britax Roemer BABY-SAFE² i-SIZE will hold your baby in the car from birth right up to  around 15 months or 83 cm. It has a cosy insert for newborns so that even very tiny babies are held comfortably and safely and it also has a lie-flat mode, which gives a good ergonomic position for your baby (see our helpful feature on why your baby should lie flatter).

The seat will also still be suitable for your baby right up to 83cm in height, which is usually around 15 months.

You can use the seat alone, with the BABY-SAFE i-SIZE BASE or the BABY-SAFE i-SIZE FLEX BASE, which has been tested by ADAC and been given a rating of “GOOD” and a grade of 1.7.

The newborn insert not only gives additional support, it also gives extra energy absorption in case of a crash, protecting your tiny baby. As your little one grows, you can remove the insert and further adjustments can be made to the headrest to let the seat grow along with your child. The harness also adjusts with the headrest, so you don’t need to un-thread and re-thread the straps.

The seat is able to lie flat, the best positions for a newborn and very young baby to travel and rest in. The position of the headrest enables the lie-flat position of the seat to be engaged, so when the headrest is in its lowest position for a small baby, the seat will be flatter. An even better flat position can be achieved when you use the seat with the BABY-SAFE i-SIZE FLEX base (check this will fit in your car), which costs around £132.

However, Britax knows that a more upright position is safer in the event of an impact, so as your child grows, the seat enables them to be in this position. All Britax’s car seats meet and exceed safety testing standards (ECE R129).

Side impacts account for a high proportion of accidents, so the seat offers good protection by pushing your child away from a crash in a controlled movement. The seat then deforms to absorb and deflect energy away from your child. You can adjust the SICT (side impact protection) on the side of the baby’s car seat that is nearest to the door.

Inside the seat is a good five-Point harness to keep your child held securely in the seat. It helps distributes crash impact to protect your child.

When used with the base, it’s simple to install the seat into the car. Fix the base in using the instructions, then when your child is securely strapped into the seat, you can just click it into the base. A simple handle at the back of the seat  unlocks it from the base. When correctly fitted, the colour indicator changes from red to green for peace of mind.

The base angle of the seat adjusts through four positions and there’s a clever indicator to show if the angle is too flat. Indicators are perfect for peace of mind.

Fabrics are soft and cosy and can be removed for washing.
