B Loves: Easy to use every day and gorgeous designer fabrics

phil&teds is a company known for its rugged, all-terrain three wheelers and clever approaches to carrying two babies in a narrow and yet comfortable pushchair. Now it turns its attention to creating a contemporary, functional pushchair that’s ideal for the streets of the city and has an eye-catching new look too.

philandteds modSeat: The seat unit is compact as befits the small size of the pushchair but it is well padded and will be comfortable for kids up to about four years – at which point you’ll only be using it sporadically, for long walks and holidays. Facing either the front or the parent, it reclines using a lever on the top, back of the seat and has a harness with four separate clips to do up – which might seem fiddly at first, but is quite good when your little one is wriggling! It has well-padded shoulder and waist straps and the harness is adjustable as your child grows. There’s an integral footrest for smaller kids and they then progress to the footrest on the chassis when they’re older. The seat can be philandteds modreclined for naps but does not lie completely flat – you should use it in the bassinette mode for the stage from newborn to around four to six months to ensure your baby is lying flat. This is easy to do, you simply unclip buckles beneath the seat and the base drops down, making a nice sized bassinette using the same hood (there’s even an apron to make it look like a classic pram and to keep baby cosy). The bassinette can even be removed from the chassis and used as a place for your baby to nap if they fall asleep while you’re out. The UPF 50+ hood is a good size and has a strong forward edge to keep its shape and it also has a zipped extendable section for days when they sun is low or the wind stronger.

philandteds modChassis: The chassis comes in a stylish matte black and is strong enough to hold even a four-year-old. A good investment, this offsets its slightly heavy weight with durability and you’ll be able to use this for two, even three kids. A good choice if you know you want more children. It is extremely slim line, which makes it a good choice for nipping in and out of shop doorways, in small cafés, in the car boot, traveling by public transport and for storing at home. It has an easy folding system which you’ll find easy to do. Just slide the lever to the side, then push down with your foot and the pushchair collapses. Clip it together at the side and it’s free-standing. If you unclip it, then pull up on the handlebar and give it a little flick, it clicks back into place, ready for your next adventure. Another great feature is philandteds modthe brake – it’s not down on the chassis but is a red lever, easy to see and easy to use, on the side of the handlebar. Its placement means you can’t do it by mistake, as you might if it were in the middle. The handlebar is covered with soft-grip foam and has three positions so any parent can find a height to suit themselves. It has a generous shopping baskets (hold up to 10kg) and a low centre of gravity, which makes it easy to tip it onto its back wheels when tackling curbs, buses etc.

Wheels: Wheels are small compared to some three-wheelers but a good size when compared to compact pushchairs, so you get the best of both worlds. They are chunky and stable and are puncture proof, making this an easy to maintain buggy. The front wheels can be locked in place or left to rotate for easy cornering.

philandteds modExtras: To complete your pushchair you’ll need the all-weather kit which comprises a rain cover and a sun cover for £45. They fit well and have good breathability, plus the sun cover will prevent insect bites. Car seat adaptors (£39) allow you to add a car seat (see below) and there’s also a Universal Travel Bag to protect and store your pushchair for flights, journeys and storage.
